I have a lot to catch up with! Our new website and blog are up and running and now it is time to get up to speed but to save my sanity I am going to start with a little history and speed right through to today.
7 Star Therapeutic Riding was begun by Dovie Barrett, she saw a great need for therapeutic riding in our area. Over the years the organization has called several facility’s home and hundreds of clients. Today we are located in Amarillo on Pullman Road in a wonderful covered arena. The covered arena allows us to hold sessions when the wind blows, when the temperature is high (and low), when it rains, and even when it snows……….well when it snows a little……….we are all about safety and everyone getting home safely!
We have been the lucky precipitants of several nice grants the last few months that have allowed us to expand our scholarships, do work the grounds and entry way, and buy much needed equipment!
Two (and a half) of the MAJOR projects we are working on are:
Getting our new entryway surfaced so that is more “weather friendly”. Once this is complete we can start using the new entryway. A bonus to that is we can tell them to turn in the gate with the sign versus turn left at the blue dumpster.
We are in need of office and therapy space. Our plans are to find the funding to purchase a mobile home to move out the arena. This will provide us with formal office space to keep all of our records and supplies, a place to meet with potential clients, and a clean, comfortable environment to do evaluations and stretching exercises.
Now for the Half………I call it a half because it is a small project but it requires our getting the trailer/office space! Once it is in place we will build a ramped entry along with a porch around the trailer. On one end of this we want to build a secure framework and install a harness so that we can work with clients who are in wheel chairs, limb prosthetics, and those who just cannot at this point physically mount a horse.
